A pair of sisters contemplate the immortality of their relationship while looking at a painting.
This short film project brought together my love of art, animation, film, comics, and my sister into one piece. I enjoy mixing mediums and using my full creative toolkit to experiment with visual storytelling. With so many different types of assets involved—from film and animation to illustrated and graphic elements—organization was key to keep track of materials and bring all of the pieces together into one cohesive project.
The entirety of the idea for this project came to me as I stared at this painting in a museum.
short film
A young woman drifts through a monotonous dream she can't seem to leave, questioning its meaning and the unseen force holding her there.
Created for the 2025 Nikon Film & Photo Contest under the theme “Inspire,” this project was a great lesson in being scrappy and adaptable. Working with a limited timeline, I exercised the art of the pivot, prioritizing what mattered, and working with what we had to get the job done. They say that filmmaking is just a series of creative problem-solving!
One of my favorite elements of filmmaking is the score/soundtrack. Music is such a powerful storytelling tool.
I took on the fun challenge of composing the music for this project, following the rough cut. Seeing the visual, written, and sonic pieces all come together was incredibly satisfying!
an excerpt from michelle zauner's memoir.
This project explores a story that feels especially tender to me as a Korean American. I'm particularly drawn to the "narrative montage" style of filmmaking, assembling shots that evoke emotion and utilizing the power of a strong monologue. I wanted to experiment with creating feeling through the relationship between image and voice.
